We are strongly committed to the preservation and promotion of American Sign Language (ASL), recognizing it as a vital part of Deaf culture, identity, and communication.

Vision

 

Ohio Deaf Association’s vision is to be a vibrant, connected, and empowered community that fosters inclusivity, advocacy, and equal access for all Deaf* individuals.

Mission

​

The Ohio Deaf Association is dedicated to advancing the rights, accessibility, and inclusion of Deaf* individuals across the state. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we aim to:

  • Promote Deaf culture and heritage.

  • Ensure equal access to education, employment, and public resources.

  • Support leadership development and collaboration within the Deaf community.

  • Build bridges between the Deaf and hearing communities to foster understanding and mutual respect.

Goal

​

  1. Advocate for Accessibility:

    • Work to ensure equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and public services for Deaf individuals.

    • Promote the implementation of ASL interpreters, captioning services, and other accommodations in all public and private sectors.

  2. Provide Resources and Support:

    • Offer guidance and resources to Deaf individuals and families navigating challenges related to communication, accessibility, and community integration.

  3. Engage in Community Outreach:

    • Build connections between the Deaf and hearing communities to encourage mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration.

    • Host public awareness campaigns to break down stereotypes and promote inclusivity.

  4. Collaborate with Allies and Organizations:

    • Partner with other organizations serving Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing individuals to strengthen advocacy efforts.

    • To influence policy changes and foster relationships with local, state, and national leaders.

    • Develop in harmony with every deaf-related organization by consolidating all events into our master calendar to help prevent double bookings and scheduling conflicts.

  5. Empower the Next Generation:

    • Provide scholarships, internships, and career development opportunities for Deaf students and young professionals.
